Blocked chakras: what your body and your life are trying to tell you

There are moments when life seems to stop for no apparent reason. The body hurts and the doctors cannot find the cause. The business that was doing well starts to fall. The partner you loved drifts away from one day to the next. If you got here looking for information about the chakras, you probably feel there is something more behind what you are living through, something that does not show up in a blood test or a psychology session. That intuition deserves to be heard, not dismissed.

What the chakras are and why they matter in the Hispanic tradition

The chakras are energy centers that run through the human body from the base of the spine to the top of the head. The word comes from Sanskrit and means "wheel," because each of these centers spins and distributes vital energy throughout the organism. When a chakra spins freely, life flows. When it gets blocked, the body, the emotions and the circumstances start to suffer in ways we often cannot name.

This knowledge has roots in the Hindu tradition and in yoga, but the intuition that a human being is more than flesh and bone is universal. Mexican curanderos, Caribbean espiritistas and Central American shamans have worked for centuries with the understanding that we have a physical body and an energetic body. One can fall ill when the other is wounded. In Mexican curanderismo, that energy is worked with herbs, prayers and cleansings. The name may change between cultures. The reality they point to is the same.

For the Hispanic community in the United States, living between two worlds, carrying the inheritance of their grandparents while navigating a new life, knowledge of the chakras can be a bridge between ancestral wisdom and present pain. It does not replace the doctor or the therapist. It complements them with a view that they, by training, do not offer.

The seven main chakras and what each one governs

Knowing the seven main energy centers can give you an important clue about which area of your life or your body is most affected. Read carefully. Notice which one you recognize something of what you are living in.

Root chakra, base of the spine

Governs security, financial stability and rootedness. When it is blocked, constant fear appears, financial problems with no logical explanation, the feeling that the floor is shifting under your feet. It often shows up as pain in the legs, knees and bones as well.

Sacral chakra, lower belly

Governs emotions, sexuality, creativity and emotional bonds. Its blockage shows in relationships that fail one after another, in loss of pleasure in daily life, in couple conflicts that erupt for no apparent reason, or in a sense of emotional emptiness that does not lift.

Solar plexus chakra, stomach

Governs will, confidence and the ability to act. When it is damaged, chronic indecision appears, digestive problems that do not respond to treatment, and that feeling that you cannot move forward even though you are trying with everything you have.

Heart chakra, center of the chest

Governs love, compassion and deep bonds. Its blockage brings an inability to trust others, grief that does not close, and sometimes heart or respiratory illnesses the doctors never quite explain.

Throat chakra, neck

Governs expression, truth and communication. When it is blocked, it is hard to ask for what you need or say what you think. It also shows up as thyroid problems or a throat that gets sick again and again.

Third eye chakra, between the brows

Governs intuition, mental clarity and perception. Its blockage causes confusion, repetitive nightmares and that persistent feeling that something bad is about to happen, even though you cannot identify what or why.

Crown chakra, top of the head

Governs spiritual connection and life purpose. When it is damaged, the person feels a deep emptiness, absence of meaning, and disconnection from everything that used to give them direction or joy.

Signs that your chakras may be blocked

A chakra blockage does not always arrive as a spiritual revelation. Most of the time it disguises itself as everyday symptoms we tend to ignore or blame on stress, work or a bad streak.

Some people arrive after months of feeling a tiredness that rest does not fix. An exhaustion that goes beyond work or lost sleep. Something that pulls them down without their being able to name it clearly.

  • Physical pains that migrate from one place to another with no clear medical diagnosis
  • Persistent insomnia that does not respond to any treatment
  • A feeling of being watched or observed even inside your own home
  • Accumulated bad luck: one problem on top of another, with no breathing room between them
  • Relationships that blow up with no visible logical reason
  • Businesses that fall right when they were starting to grow
  • Repetitive nightmares or disturbing dreams about specific people
  • Sudden mood changes you do not recognize as part of you
  • The sense of a presence in your home or around you that you cannot explain

None of these signs alone confirms spiritual harm. But when they pile up, when the doctors find nothing, when you changed jobs and the problem followed you, when you changed partners and the same pattern repeated, it is worth looking from another angle.

The evil eye, envy and how they damage the chakras

In the Hispanic folk tradition, there is something we all know but few say out loud: envy does harm. Not as a metaphor. Envy, the evil eye and ill-intentioned trabajos are forms of energy that can enter a person's energetic field and block their chakras in a real, sustained way.

The evil eye happens when someone, consciously or unconsciously, directs at another person a gaze loaded with desire, resentment or envy. Children and people with little energetic protection are the most vulnerable. In adults, the evil eye often settles in the chakras most exposed at that moment: the solar plexus, which holds confidence, and the root, which holds material stability.

Trabajos are something different and more deliberate. They are rituals carried out with the intention of causing harm: breaking up a couple, ruining a business, making someone sick. In the curanderismo tradition, it is recognized that these trabajos can attach themselves to the person's energetic field and corrupt the circulation of energy in their chakras. The result is felt first in the areas of life that person values most or has most exposed to others.

How to tell? There is a question curanderos always ask: when did it start? If you can point to an exact moment when everything changed, a celebration, a visit, a serious argument, that is information that matters and that a specialist knows how to read.

Cleansings, herbs and prayers: what the tradition has always known

One of the oldest tools for restoring the balance of the chakras in the Mexican and Central American tradition is the spiritual cleansing. It is not superstition or simple folklore. It is an energetic cleaning protocol rooted in the ancestral knowledge of medicinal plants, prayers and ritual passed down through generations.

The herb cleansing works on the principle that certain plants have properties that go beyond the physical. Rosemary cleans and gives protection. Rue repels negative energies and seals the energetic field. Copal opens spaces and clears out what is stagnant. Each plant acts on different chakras, and a knowledgeable curandero knows exactly which ones to use and how to combine them according to what the person needs.

When a curandero performs a cleansing, he is not just passing herbs over the body. He is reading the person's energy while he works. He is recognizing which chakra holds weight, darkness or accumulated damage. The prayers that accompany the ritual, many of them drawn from folk Catholic tradition, Indigenous knowledge and espiritismo, are what activates the release and returns movement to what was paralyzed.

Amarres de amor, in the genuine tradition, are not what many imagine either. A well-done amarre does not bind anyone against their will: it reinforces the energetic bond between two people who already have a real connection that something external has tried to interrupt. Protection prayers, for their part, activate the upper chakras, crown and third eye, so the person can better discern the energies around them and build a barrier against envy and trabajos.

When a problem is spiritual and when you need another kind of help

This is one of the most important points in everything you can read about the chakras and wellbeing. Not everything that hurts has a spiritual origin. And confusing one with the other can cause you real harm.

A spiritual blockage or damage in the chakras generally has these characteristics:

  • It began at an identifiable moment and coincided with a social event or the presence of a certain person
  • It comes with symptoms that do not respond to conventional medical treatment
  • It affects several areas at the same time: health, money, relationships and inner peace
  • It feels like something external, like a weight you do not recognize as yours

A medical or emotional problem, on the other hand, generally:

  • Has a clear family history or personal background
  • Responds to medical treatment, even if partially or gradually
  • Has an identifiable origin in trauma, chronic stress or life history
  • Does not change significantly with the environment or with the people around you

The rule is simple: first go to the doctor. If the doctor finds nothing or the treatment does not work after a reasonable time, and something inside you keeps saying there is more, then seek spiritual guidance. The two dimensions, physical and energetic, do not exclude each other. They can be attended to together. What cannot be done is to ignore either one.

Common mistakes when damage to the chakras is suspected

Some people, on suspecting their chakras are damaged or that someone did work on them, make decisions that complicate the situation instead of resolving it.

Panic. Intense fear opens the chakras and makes them more vulnerable, not less. If you suspect spiritual harm, filling yourself with terror feeds exactly what you want to fight. Recognizing the problem calmly is the first right step.

Seeking help in many places at the same time. Going to three different curanderos, doing internet rituals, mixing traditions without knowledge or guidance. Each spiritual tradition has its own energetic logic. Mixing them without direction can create more disorder in the chakras than there already was.

Expecting instant results. If someone promises you that in three days you will get your partner back, that in a week your business will flourish or that a single ritual will remove all the harm forever, that person is not working from the authentic tradition. Real healing, the kind that genuinely restores the chakras, takes time and requires your active participation, not just the curandero's.

Total inaction. Sitting and waiting for things to get better on their own, without taking any step. Blocked chakras do not restore themselves with time. They need intention, work and the company of someone who knows what they are doing.

Frequently asked questions

Are the chakras part of the Hispanic tradition or a concept foreign to our culture?

The name "chakra" comes from Sanskrit, but the concept of energy centers in the human body exists in practically every culture. In Mexican curanderismo, bodily energy is worked through cleansings, prayers and herbs without needing that specific term. The Caribbean spiritist tradition also recognizes the energetic body and works with it. Today, the word "chakra" works as a bridge between traditions that speak of the same thing with different vocabularies. It is not foreign if what it points to is something your grandmother already knew.

Can the evil eye block the chakras permanently?

No. A blockage, even one caused by the evil eye or by deliberate trabajos, can be treated. Curanderismo and espiritismo exist precisely for that. There are deeper cases that require more work and more time, but no energetic blockage is irreversible when it is attended to by someone who knows what they are doing and the person is willing to take part in their own process.

How do I know if my money problems have a spiritual origin?

Watch the pattern. If money leaves even though you work with discipline, if businesses fall right when they start to grow, if opportunities vanish inexplicably and this repeats no matter what changes you make, there may be something in your root chakra or your energetic field blocking the flow. But also review your financial habits, your debts and your decisions. Both readings can be true at the same time, and both deserve attention.

Can a blocked chakra cause a real physical illness?

The relationship between the energetic body and the physical body is something curanderismo and many spiritual traditions have recognized for centuries. Mind-body medicine has also documented how chronic stress, sustained fear and repressed emotions express themselves physically over time. With any physical symptom, the first thing is to seek medical care. Spiritual work complements that process; it does not and should not replace it.

What exactly is a cleansing and how many sessions are needed?

A spiritual cleansing is an energetic cleaning ritual that sets out to remove from the person's field the negative energies, the trabajos or the blockages affecting them. It is done with herbs, prayers, sometimes with egg, copal or tobacco, depending on the curandero's tradition and what the reading of the person indicates. The number of sessions depends on each case. Some people feel clear relief after a single cleansing. Cases with more accumulated load or deeper damage may require a longer, steadier process.

How can I protect my chakras in daily life?

The tradition recommends simple practices that are part of daily care: carrying a pinch of coarse salt in your pocket to absorb negative energies, placing rue at the entrance of the home, starting the day with a prayer that seals your energetic field before going out, and being careful about who you share your projects and joys with. Protection is not an instant magic armor. It is a spiritual habit cultivated over time and with consistency.

Can children also have affected chakras?

Yes, and they are in fact more vulnerable because their energetic field is still developing. The evil eye in small children is recognized across practically the whole Hispanic community. The most common symptoms are unexplained crying, sudden fever with no clear medical cause, refusing food and extreme agitation that nothing calms. Cleansings with specific herbs for children are part of the curanderismo tradition and have accompanied Hispanic families for generations.

When to seek guidance from a specialist

If after reading these signs you feel that what you are living through goes beyond what a doctor or a psychologist can attend to, looking for someone with genuine spiritual knowledge is a step of self-care, not of weakness or superstition.

Don Jacinto Nahual is a curandero from Catemaco, Veracruz, a region known for centuries for its deep spiritual heritage and for the seriousness of its practitioners. With more than 30 years of practice and knowledge passed down from generation to generation, he works with cleansings with herbs and prayers, spiritual guidance, energetic protection and harmonizing the home for those who feel that something in their life or in their chakras needs to be attended to in depth. He works in English and Spanish.

He sees the Hispanic community in Southern California, including Los Angeles, East Los Angeles and Long Beach, among other cities in the area. You can consult him in person by appointment, or receive initial guidance by call or message if you cannot travel at that moment.

His philosophy is clear and honest: spiritual work is discipline, faith and strengthening of the spirit. He does not promise instant results or overnight solutions. But he does sit with you, listens carefully to what you are living through, reads your energy from the knowledge that was passed down to him, and offers you a real path toward balance. If your chakras need attention, the first step always depends on you.
